BRAND STRATEGY

Panama had grown organically around bold, playful home textiles. I worked with the founders over three months to define a clearer brand strategy, mature the communication, and create a practical roadmap for future growth.

The challenge

Panama had strong energy, a loyal community, and a distinctive visual world. But as the brand grew, the founders needed more structure.

The goal was to move from intuitive brand-building to more intentional decisions around positioning, communication, and product development, without losing the charm that made Panama recognizable in the first place.

The strategy

I designed the process to be collaborative, not prescriptive.

The project began with customer interviews, a competitor analysis, and a comprehensive brand audit to understand both Panama's current perception and the whitespace in the market. These insights became the foundation for a series of collaborative workshops with the founders, where we defined the brand heart, messaging, portfolio strategy, and implementation roadmap.

The core idea became simple: beautiful things don't need to wait for special occasions - a principle that now guides everything from product development to communication.

My role

I led the strategy process in close collaboration with the founders.

My work included brand audit, customer and competitor research, workshop facilitation, positioning, messaging, tone of voice, portfolio recommendations, and a practical action plan across marketing and sales channels. The process was designed to give the founders strategic clarity while keeping the brand fully theirs.

What I delivered

The project turned founder intuition into a clear brand foundation and roadmap for growth.

  • A brand strategy defining Panama’s purpose, values, positioning, and organizing idea.

  • A messaging framework including brand pillars, content pillars, tone of voice, brand story, and bios.

  • Portfolio development directions designed to reduce seasonality and support growth beyond blankets.

  • A practical implementation roadmap covering website, product communication, social media, email, retail, and partnerships.

Impact

The strategy gave Panama a clearer foundation for its next stage of growth.

Following the project, the brand expanded its portfolio beyond blankets into bags, towels, bathrobes, jackets, vests, and upcoming homeware pieces. This helped reduce reliance on seasonal products and supported a more mature, curated brand direction.

Panama’s communication became more refined while keeping its approachable personality. The brand continued growing its sales and community, moved into a bigger office, and evolved from a playful niche label into a more complete lifestyle homeware brand.
